Useful information on volunteer work projects

How is a work camp organised?

Being a volunteer is not like being on holiday. You will have to start work early in the morning (the working day is usually organised from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.) and you will have to take your turn preparing meals and doing the washing-up for your group. However, once your working day is done and you have had a chance to rest, you can make the most of being in Provence by participating in the different activities, which are organised.

Groups are generally made up of twelve to fourteen volunteers.
It is important that you are able to speak either French or English.

How to participate in a work camp

Our work camps are open to people over the age of 18. However, it is important that you are in good physical condition to get the most out of the experience. Alpes de Lumière reserves the right to refuse or exclude any person, who does not actively participate in the daily life of our work camps.

Once you have completed a registration form, and sent it to Alpes de Lumière, you will receive information concerning the dates, meeting-places and travel information, provided, of course, that you have supplied us with all the necessary information, and that there are still spaces available on the camp which you have chosen.

For all work camps, there is a minimum stay of 2 weeks. Participation costs cover your registration fees, your membership of our association, and your insurance costs. It is important that foreign participants take out their own repatriation insurance policy to cover accident liability.

Accommodation costs, meals, leisure, and recreational activities are paid for by the association. Please note that accommodation can vary in comfort from one work camp to another. For the most part, accommodation is on a campsite.

You must meet travel costs from your place of residence to the work camp. The information that you will receive from us will give you indications of the local transport available to access your camp. Please pay close attention to this information, since most of our camps are situated in remote areas with only minimal bus or train services. You will also be provided with an address at which you can receive post.
All participants should bring with them a sleeping bag, walking boots, a water bottle, a small mattress and a tent.
